Well, tomorrow is the last day of engagement (or I guess, technically it’s today)! Thanks so much for reading my blog throughout these 500 days. I had so much fun working on it, and it reminded me of how much I love to write. I hope you felt inspired by the ideas & enjoyed following along!
If I start a new blog, I’ll be sure to link it here. 🙂 Til then, I’m off to get married & explore Europe! I’ll see you onInstagram.
I’m a little late on my May goals post, due to all kinds of curveballs over here. Kind of weird to have a final wedding goals post!
Here’s what’s left this month:
Finish up my escort cards/coasters
Get our marriage license
Pack for the honeymoon
Besides last-minute things, that’s it! The pros of a long engagement. 😉
This weekend is my friend Hannah’s wedding (she’s also marrying a Jo(h)n!) and I can’t wait to see her as a bride. We have been each other’s texting support from time to time with etiquette/dress/RSVP questions, and I love that we’ve talked about our Jo(h)ns for years and now we’re marrying them in the same month.
I’ve been slowly collecting a list of things I want to do in June/July when things slow down, like take golf lessons and make a pretty gallery wall. Exciting, I know. I’m going to miss writing (500) Days of Engagement!
March is relatively chill when put next to the tornado of activity that was February. I’m ok with that. 🙂
My bridal shower and fittings are in the past (both such great experiences!), and John and I are finally not sick anymore. Thank goodness! He’s better just in time for his bachelor ski trip this weekend, and I’m so excited for him and all his groomsmen!
I can’t believe there are only two months to go. It has felt so far away for so long, and now we’re picking up speed. Eek! Here’s what I’m working on this month:
Mail out invites: Yay! Mailing invites is like the official no turning back point!
Work on escort cards: Well, they’re not cards, exactly. You’ll see. 😉
Welcome bags for hotel guests: I actually delegated this task to my mom, since she’s much better at stuff like this. But I am helping her with little welcome notes on the actual bags.
Go rock climbing again: Oh my goodness. I have been wanting to do this for so long and I think I’m finally ready. We used to go all the time and it was the most fun workout, but after a tragic accident at our gym it was too hard to go back.
SPRING CLEANING: Cleaning and organizing are my most favorite tasks of all time. I am SO EXCITED to spring clean! You don’t even know.
I feel like in January, we made some good strides.
We looked at all kinds of wedding bands and got our invites printed. I also addressed them all!
I know it’s early. I just like to be ahead of schedule, you know? 😉
February goals are as follows:
• Take our dance lessons. Haha. What? We have such a long engagement (and a Groupon), so we thought, why not?
• Confirm specifics with the florist. Feeling the need to add more daisies!
• Set up wedding dress alterations. Eek!
• Book honeymoon with the help of The Simple Sol. We were struggling big time on planning a trip to France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria, and she’s putting together a package far better than anything we could have dreamed up! 🙂
Try a barre class. I’ve been wanting to do this only forever and ever, and there’s one nearby so I have no excuse to not try it. (Yep, this copied and pasted this one from my January goals!)
We ended November with an Operation Christmas Child packing party with friends, followed by Thanksgiving with both of our parents and my brothers, which was really neat. My two sets of grandparents live near each other and have always been friends, so I sort of adore this parents-living-nearby arrangement.
December is starting off pretty wonderfully, as I’m in Boston today! Crossing my fingers for snow, but it’s looking unlikely.
Our main to do’s this month are:
– Book our HONEYMOON. Well FINALLY. I care about this more than the wedding, maybe. 🙂 Except we still have no idea where to go.
Security is, of course, a large concern right now, so we may end up waiting on this. We’ll see what’s happening in the world these next few months…
– Register for stuff? For real this time. Maybe? This is still surprisingly hard…
– Come up with something cute to send the wedding party for the holidays.
– Get a 2016 planner! Debating between these three: One, two, three. Update: Option 3 is sold out 🙁
– See The Nutcracker.
– Finish up Christmas shopping for my Secret Santa and everyone else. Thanks to Cyber Monday, most of this is done.
-Get a Christmas tree for our little apartment. Partake in the Southern Weddings Ornament Swap. Fill our first tree!
When people ask me if I’m planning on losing weight for my wedding (and yes this is a real thing that people ask – to my face – it’s unnerving please stop) my response is “ehh no not really.” Sometimes I add “maybe 5 pounds” so I sound like a real bride.
My dress fit perfectly and my weight hadn’t really changed in five years so, yeah. That was my answer. I wasn’t even going to do a fitness post because that would have been it.
But things have been stressful lately, and it seems my response to stress is to sleep. Sleep in. Nap during lunch break. Nap after work. Go to sleep early. Generally feel tired all.the.time.
On top of this, my metabolism suddenly decided I am old now and responded accordingly. So in these last three months alone, I have gained 15 pounds.
I felt like throwing myself off a bridge.
OK, that wasn’t a very body-positive thing to say. I did not throw myself off a bridge, obviously, but I did sob. A lot.
So. My answer has changed, and I suppose it is time for a plan of action. I can handle eating better and I used to run much more so I get calorie intake-outtake basics, I promise.
Now someone just send me exercises for the perpetually tired.
Hey, confession. I’m writing these on September 15, cause on October 1 I’ll be on my 23rd birthday trip (late) to New England. I’m actually exploring Boston right now. 🙂
Hello, October! My month of not wedding planning has passed, though I did not keep to my promise of not planning. I got the cutest wedding flats and spent a couple hours (shame) fine-tuning my list of everything else to do.
So with an updated timeline in hand, let’s get to it.
Host a DIY weekend: I’m so very excited about this and it starts Oct. 3, this Saturday! My two bridesmaids from Austin are coming up and we will be making centerpieces and also probably cutting ~300 strands of ribbons (they don’t know the ribbon part yet).
Order bridesmaids’ gifts: I don’t want to give anything away, but I want to be sure everything is ordered in time for personalization.
Order groomsmen gifts (?): Can I get my fiancé to do this? Probably not.
Decide men’s attire (?): See above.
Choose some misc. items: I’ll get an aisle runner (maybe) and decide on a guestbook idea. I’m leaning toward pictures you can sign… And I need to decide on some more misc. decorations. I’m kind of stressed by this bullet point and how vague it is. :/
Read “Yes Please”: Amy Poehler is everything. Yes, I know everyone has already read this book and I’m behind.
Try to do some fall things: Fall in Texas is a total joke, but I still want to seek out a corn maze or pumpkin patch if I can find one.
Document our New England trip: I hope we’re having fun right now. 🙂
Get a haircut: Yeah I have to put this on my goals otherwise I won’t do it. It’s been in my planner since June but I’m too cheap to commit to actually going….
Start an Etsy shop: Whaaat? Yes. I have just one design thing I want to sell. Maybe I will post it here when I get it running if I’m not still frozen by the fear of everyone seeing “0 sales”.
What are your October goals? Or wedding planning stress relief tips? 🙂 I’ll take either.
